Porch Light

“At Porchlight, we help people who have nowhere to go and no-one to turn to; some people are homeless, others are struggling to cope with the pressures in their lives and need our support to keep on track.

As a charity working across Kent, we help vulnerable and isolated people get support with their mental health, housing, education and employment. We provide young people and adults with the advice, guidance and skills to live independently in the future, to play an active role in their local community and to fulfil their potential.

In 2015/16 we supported nearly 5000 people but we couldn’t do it without the hard work and commitment of supporters, partners, funders and staff, and of course, the people that we support.”

The task set was to create a short video to help create awareness of the charity, and to use existing poems created on the subject by drama students within Canterbury College. I am working with Charley Taft on this project, we both decided that we wanted to create our own poem as we felt it would be more genuine if we thought of the words as well.

ASA

asa-ashxThe Advertising Standards Authority is the UK’s independent regulator of advertising across all media. We apply the Advertising Codes, which are written by the Committees of Advertising Practice. Our work includes acting on complaints and proactively checking the media to take action against misleading, harmful or offensive advertisements.

Our aim is make sure that all UK advertising, wherever it appears is legal, decent, honest and truthful and our preferred approach is to work with, rather than against, advertisers, agencies and media to achieve this.

To prevent problems from arising in the first place, there is a wealth of advice resources available, many of them free. From this section you can find direct links to the advice and training resources provided by CAP.

You will also find advice on how our process works if someone has made a complaint about your ad and advice on making a complaint about a competitor.

The ASA recognises the importance of providing a service that is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. Please let us know when you first contact us if you have any accessibility needs and we will do our best to accommodate them.

The internet overtook television for the first time ever as the most complained about medium with 13,477 complaints about 10,202 ads, an increase of 35%. from 2013.

The Poem

Do you ever see every single green leaf fall from a tree?

I do.

Do you ever feel the winds begin to change at sea?

I do.

Do you hear the last buzz of a bee?

I do.

Do you ever wish for the seasons to save you?

Do you ever feel the cold concrete floor, with brisk snow used as a duvet to keep you warm?

I do.

Do you ever wake up to the morning sun, a shade of red, only to be disguised by the storm?

I do.

Do you ever hope for a blanket that’s no longer alone?

I do.

Do you ever wish for the seasons to save you?

Do you ever lay in rain drops that fall?

I do.

Only hoping the rain will become small?

I do.

Leaving the old life behind?

I do.

Do you ever wish for the seasons to save you?

Do you ever hope that you’ll get longer nights?

I do.

To hide away from the bright lights?

I do.

To not long for help from invisible friends?

I do.

Do you ever wish for the seasons to save you?

I wish, just one wish that I won’t have to lay down and watch the seasons change as you all carry on with your day.

Story Board

The story board shows an idea of how we want to lay out our video. Each photo/wording will represent a particular season from Autumn to Summer.

We will be using fellow students to voice the video and then attaching images to this on Adobe Prem.
